Sustainability Practices

Buy what you believe in

90% of our clothing is tossed away before it needs to be and synthetic materials like polyester tend to release 2-3 times more carbon emissions than cotton. Laundering of synthetic textiles like polyester releases 500 000 tons of microplastics into the ocean each year equivalent to 50 billion plastic bottles that never biodegrade, polluting and killing our marine life.

We, at Kavita, use Mulmul, a 100% all-natural cotton to ensure that each outfit feels sumptuously soft and is long-lasting.

Is my fabric sustainable?

Made from plant-based fabrics, mulmul/muslin is 100% biodegradable and compostable with 50% increased longevity compared to regular cotton, extending its lifespan which segregates the fabric from fast fashion.

Additionally, we use eco-friendly, non-toxic dyes to dye these fabrics which helps in reducing the usage of synthetic fabrics that shed micro-plastics into our environment.

Our garments are curated using this long-fibered durable fabric to manufacture limited pieces, reducing our carbon footprints while maintaining quality and style

Hand-block prints

The recorded history of block printing dates back to around 3500 to 1300 BC which has been practiced for centuries in India. The process requires steady movement and careful hand-eye coordination, this traditional technique of fabric printing involve the use of carved wooden blocks that are dipped in dye to recreate gorgeous designs.

A labour-intensive technique where a human hand is creating all the magic. Like real-life, some tiny variations and imperfections are there making our prints charming and unique.

Why Hand-block?

In an era of mill-made garments, hand-block printing is a versatile and sustainable technique, combining with eco-friendly dyes makes it even safe for kids and sensitive skin.

The amount of time and care invested by each artisan makes each of our garments, not just special but also a desirable collectible.
